The hotel offers a good value for a short business trip with a variety of room sections, including a spotless bathroom, a large relaxing area, and a sleeping space with a nice view of the river. While it's not ideal for a family vacation, it's the cheapest option available.

The hotel's rooms, in Old Classical Chinese Style, are separated from the study area by a wooden screen. They are okay, somewhat old, and probably haven't been redecorated since the hotel was built. However, they were clean, very spacious, with a large study desk and a king-size bed with a sliding door for privacy. The service, despite the staff doing their best to accommodate my dietary restrictions without any smiles, was a bit lacking. On the bright side, the location was very good, within walking distance from People Square and the Bund, though the in-room PC had slow connection speeds. The dining experience in the high-up restaurant was adequate, with a mix of Western and Chinese dishes, but seating was a bit challenging. Facilities were functional, with a pretty good location for this Shanghai hotel of 50 years ago.

My stay at the hotel was quite comfortable with free internet access, which was a great help for exploring the tourist spots in Shanghai. The rooms, although old-style, were large and well set up. However, the overall look of the hotel seemed a bit outdated, particularly noticeable from the profiles of the doors in the wet room.

The hotel's atmosphere is reminiscent of a by-gone era with dark Chinoiserie furnishings, slightly noticeable smoke smell that did not cause offense, and an excellent view. However, free Wi-Fi would be a nice addition. The service was a mix of extremely helpful and unfriendly experiences, with a need to ask for extra towels daily. The unbeatable location near People's Square, the Bund, and Nanjing Road compensated for the hotel's shortcomings. The dining experience offered great variety but lacked seating space. The facilities were adequate, but nothing fancy.

The hotel had some of the cleanest rooms I experienced during my trip in China, with floor to ceiling windows offering a fantastic view over Shanghai's Bund area. The assistant manager was very helpful and kind, although there was an unfortunate incident of wanting 10x the agreed upon price. The location was superb, situated conveniently between The Bund and Peoples Square, offering a vibrant area with plenty of shopping and dining options. The dining experience, while more traditional Chinese, had a good mix of western and Asian choices. Overall, a great base for exploring Shanghai.

The hotel had some of the cleanest rooms I encountered during my trip in China, but they were shabbier than what I expected based on my previous stays in three-star hotels in the country.
